Baramulla, Nov 29: The family members of a woman, who lost her life after giving birth at Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla, staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office, accusing the hospital of medical negligence. The grieving family demanded stern punishment for the alleged negligence that led to the death.
The protestors termed the incident as “murder” and pointed fingers at the doctors and staff of the hospital.
The deceased’s sister, an eyewitness to the distressing events, claimed that her sister was not given proper care, and despite repeated requests, the hospital staff neglected her condition and were glued to their cell phones instead.
The protestors urged Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar to personally intervene in the matter and take strict action against the doctors involved, especially naming Dr Areeba (name changed). They demanded the immediate sealing of her private clinic.
Blocking the road outside the DC office, the protestors disrupted traffic for a while and insisted on a thorough investigation by the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP to prevent such incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, the Medical Superintendent of GMC Baramulla Associated Hospital, Dr Parvaiz Masoodi, assured a thorough investigation, saying if anyone is found responsible for any wrongdoing, they will face strict legal consequences.
In a statement, Dr Parvaiz said he understands the importance of a fair and impartial inquiry and is committed to cooperating fully with the committee to ensure a transparent examination of the case.
Expressing deep sorrow over the demise of the patient Dilshada and extended condolences to the family.
He said the Principal GMC Baramulla has taken immediate action to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Dilshada’s demise. “A committee of seasoned professionals is being constituted to examine the case in detail, and their findings will be made public as soon as the investigation is concluded,” he said.
In adherence to the commitment to transparency and accountability, the Head of the Department of Gynaecology at GMC Baramulla has been directed to furnish a comprehensive incident report within one day. This report will shed light on the events leading up to Dilshada’s demise and provide a thorough understanding of the medical care provided, according to the statement.
“It is our sincere hope that the community and the media exercise caution and refrain from making any premature allegations or speculations until the investigative committee completes its work. Our hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services, and every effort will be made to address any concerns that may arise from this unfortunate incident,” the Medical Superintendent said, adding, “We assure the public that all necessary steps will be taken to maintain the highest standards of patient care at Associated Hospital GMC Baramulla.”
