Budgam, Dec 27: In a united appeal, residents of Ompora Housing Colony Wednesday urged the government to reconsider the current electricity billing system in their locality. The residents, facing adverse living conditions, are specifically calling for the removal of digital electrical meters and the implementation of a flat-rate billing structure.
Ward 8 of the Budgam Municipal Committee, which encompasses Ompora Housing Colony, stands out as the only ward equipped with digital meters among the 13 wards under consideration. The residents argue that the imposition of digital meters has become an additional burden, exacerbating the challenges they already face, particularly during the harsh winter conditions.
Despite the installation of these meters, electricity supply in Ompora remains inconsistent, with residents experiencing up to 10 hours of power outages. This situation has prompted the inhabitants to reach out to the Power Development Department (PDD), the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and the government for a comprehensive solution.
The residents propose a shift to a flat-rate billing system, similar to other wards, to alleviate the financial strain on the community. They emphasize that this adjustment would ensure a fair and equitable distribution of utility costs, fostering a sense of relief for the residents.
Furthermore, the appeal highlights the existing disparity in basic amenities between government housing colonies and private developments. The residents advocate for prioritizing essential facilities in government colonies, emphasizing that the colony is mostly inhabited by middle-class residents.
As the residents unite in their plea, they hope that government will consider their request seriously and take prompt action to address the concerns raised. The community looks forward to a positive response from authorities to enhance the quality of life in Ompora Govt Housing Colony Budgam.
