Ganderbal, Jan 2: Violating the J&K High Court order, illegal constructions have cropped up along Nallah Sindh at several places in Kangan.
According to reports, people in Marigund, Satrina and Thune area of Kangan are trying to grab the baseline of the nallah for construction purposes. The move comes in sharp contrast to the orders of the J&K and Ladakh High Court.
In Satrina Kangan, an illegal commercial structure is being constructed by a local contractor for a Babu of Srinagar. The contractor has taken a huge amount from him to construct a commercial structure at Satrina near a water factory.
The Court has passed directions that no construction should be carried out within the 100-mtrs periphery of the nallah.
But in violation, the above construction sources suggested it is about 20-feet from the nallah periphery.
Some senior citizens informed that the people involved in construction work have been given a free hand by authorities.
“They have been let off by the authorities”, they said. “Footage of the ongoing construction has also been taken from the spot.”
Executive Engineer I&FC Nadeem Matoo said, “We have already issued notices to them and the same was copied to SDM Kangan and also informed district administration. We have now received information about the violations and will visit the spot.”
He added they have issued around 200 notices from time to time and several anti-encroachment drives were conducted against the violators.
“We warn those who are violating the court orders and tough actions will be taken against them as per the rules. We also request the district administration to come forward and support us.” (KNO)
