The Kashmir Valley has been struggling for years now to witness adequate electricity especially during the peak winter season as the electricity always pays hide and seek, thereby leaving the local consumers here aggravated. However, with the augmentation of new power infrastructure, the people heaved a sigh of relief as the curtailment hours have been reduced this year, especially after the introduction of smart meters in Srinagar and elsewhere in the region. But, what can change the future power woes completely is the solarization here as the people would no longer be dependent on the electricity, rather would help in generating more electricity for the government once installing the solar. In this regard, the government has taken a lead to ensure the solarization of all the departments here and simultaneously as per the reports nearly 20,000 government offices would be solarized soon, which would help in generating 300 MegaWatts of electricity. As the government is keen to ensure that the people should take benefits of it, it has offered a scheme to the consumers here as the subsidy is also being offered to them in case they decide to install the solar panel at their home. Such an initiative can be a game changer and would also help in ensuring round-the-clock electricity to the people. But, what needs to be done is to create awareness in this regard, so that more and more people can opt to install solar and help the administration in putting an end to the power paucity once for all.
