Pulwama, Jan 19: The rising number of stray dogs in Rohmoo village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has become a serious concern for local inhabitants, who express distress over the inaction of authorities despite public outcry.
Residents from Rohmoo, Gusoo, Frespora and surrounding areas said that the issue has become serious. They said authorities seem to be indifferent to their repeated appeals.
“Packs of stray dogs are frequently spotted on roads, which causes inconvenience to the general public,” said a local woman.
She said the surge in stray dog numbers poses a significant threat to people’s lives, particularly during morning and evening hours when movement becomes challenging, especially for children, elders, and women.
Local activist Mudasir Ahmad alleged that dogs from urban areas are being transported and released in Rohmoo during the night. He said the children are unable to move freely due to the constant fear of dog attacks.
Expressing their grievances, residents alleged that the mysterious rise in dog population was due to their transportation from urban areas during night hours. They appealed to the concerned authorities to address the menace and ensure the safety and convenience of the local population.
Despite several attempts to bring the issue to the attention of higher authorities, residents claim their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
They have once again appealed to the authorities to intervene to alleviate the growing threat posed by the increasing number of stray dogs in these areas.
