Gulmarg, Sonamarg receive fresh snowfall, rains lash plains

Srinagar, Mar 29: The weather pattern undergoes a transition in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday as Sonamarg and the world famous ski-resort Gulmarg recorded a fresh snowfall while the rains lashed plains of Kashmir.
Jammu also witnessed a shift with light drizzles.
According to reports, Gulmarg and Sonamarg are among the few areas where light snowfall has occurred today under the influence of a Western Disturbance that affected J&K from today.
Residents in Srinagar navigated the rain with umbrellas and raincoats as they embarked on their daily routines amidst the downpour.
The local Meteorological department in Srinagar has predicted chances of rain and snowfall at many places until March 30.
Despite cloudy skies across most parts of Jammu division, temperatures remained relatively high, with Jammu recording a minimum temperature of 18.8 degrees Celsius and Srinagar at 9.8 degrees Celsius.
Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that on March 31st, partly to generally cloudy with intermittent light rain and snow is expected at few places.
From April 01-5th, the weather would remain generally dry weather with possibility of light rain at isolated places on 3rd April.
According to MeT advisory, farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations till 31st March.
There is possibility of landslides, mudslides and shooting stones during above period, the advisory reads, adding that thunderstorm, lightning activity with possibility of Hailstorm & Gusty winds is expected during 29 & 30th March.
Meanwhile, efforts to restore connectivity along the Mughal Road, linking Poonch-Rajouri to Kashmir, saw significant progress as snow removal operations concluded within a record 17 days.
Led by PWD Mechanical Engineering Wing, the diligent efforts resulted in the clearance of snow up to Peer Ki Gali, marking a milestone achievement in snow removal operations. With traffic police and district officials set to inspect the road, its reopening for traffic is imminent, signaling a step forward in restoring essential connectivity in the region.
