Achan and Srinagar’s cleanliness challenge

Beyond great cities: The human story of Harappan settlements

One can hardly find any day when the highway remains open for the vehicular movement amidst the wet spell in Jammu & Kashmir as the only road connecting the valley with rest of the country usually throws life out of gear during the rainy days as the frequent mudslides and shooting stones keeps the pivotal road blocked for hours. The commuters had to face the similar situation as they had to remain stuck for nearly ten hours Friday after the road was blocked due to the shooting stone, leaving them in trouble throughout the day. Such a situation is being witnessed at a time when the government has been making tall claims of ensuring that the highway doesn’t remain closed for more than seven hours after its closure due to the shooting stones or other issues. It has become a routine for the travelers to face such a situation on the regular whenever they travel during the inclement weather conditions, but the people here are expecting an end to the unnecessary worse situation, which they are being forced to face. Traveling through the air transport is not the cup of tea for everyone, thus the people belonging to the poor and middle class families are being pushed to the wall for which the necessary measures should be taken to end their miseries. The alternate routes should be identified or the government should at least ensure the speedy completion of the train services so that the road will not add to the miseries of the common masses here.
