Kupwara firing incident: 2 BJP workers, 2 policemen remanded till Jul 27

Kupwara, Jul 19: Two workers including the son of former district president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) besides the two policemen have been detained by the Jammu and Kashmir police in a recent firing incident at Gulgam in north Kashmir with officials saying that more arrests are expected.
Sources said that as of now four arrests have been made in the recent Gulgam firing incident which took place last Friday in which the BJP party claimed injury to one of their work in an attack by unknown gunmen during the evening hours.
He said that the arrests include the son of the BJP district president Ishfaq Ahmad and his spokesman Basharat Mir besides two policemen who were escorting them when the scene surfaced.
According to the former district president, they had gone to the aforesaid area to distribute some food items among poor people ahead of the Muslim festival.
Sources further said that Shafi Mir the suspended district president of the BJP is also among those expected to be arrested in this case.
They said that this is a criminal conspiracy case aimed to gain attention and policemen detained in this case will face action as per the law.
Meanwhile, in a local court, the sub judge as per officials remanded the arrested four individuals up to 27th July.
Ghulam Mohammad Mir, spokesman of the BJP party, who has been assigned the charge to probe the incident and file the report to the party, told KNO that the final report will be submitted to the top leadership in a week.
He said that the findings of the incident cannot be made public since it is an organizational level matter. “How you expect us to make it public.”
Mir said that he can’t state anyone as accused unless the investigation is completed and police are working on their level.
Notably, the day after the incident the party had suspended Mohammad Shafi Mir stating that some reports received from different sources made them think about the credibility of their workers. (KNO)
