Sheetal Nanda visits Abhinandan Home, OSC, SANKALP Hub for Women Empowerment

Srinagar, May 9: Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare, Sheetal Nanda, Thursday visited Abhinandan Home, Solina, a special school run by Social Welfare Department for specially abled children of the valley.
The Commissioner Secretary assessed the facilities being made available in the institute for the children with special needs there. She also held a detailed interaction with the staff, school management and the students. She highlighted various measures being planned for welfare of specially abled children studying in the Home. She exhorted upon the staff to treat these special students with utmost care and compassion as they too form an integral part of the society.
The Commissioner Secretary also interacted with the parents of the specially abled children studying there and listened to their issues concerning welfare and nurturing of their wards.
Assistant Director, Directorate of Social Welfare Kashmir and District Social Welfare Officer, briefed the Commissioner Secretary about the developments made in Abhedananda Home Solina Srinagar since last one year.
Later, Sheetal Nanda visited the offices of Mission Shakti Srinagar viz-a-viz SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women and One Stop Centre for women, an integrated women empowerment programme for safety, security and empowerment of women.
Commissioner Secretary reviewed overall functioning of both the offices and asked the concerned officials to work in tandem ensuring that the purpose behind establishment of such facilities is met in full.
The Centre Administrator, OSC, informed the Commissioner Secretary about the total number of registered cases of domestic violence for the finacial year 2023-24 besides apprising of the cases resolved, so far.
Similarly, Sheetal Nanda visited the SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women which is established with the objective to facilitate inter-sectoral convergence of schemes and programmes meant for women with the mandate to create an environment in which women realise their full potential.
The District Mission Coordinator SHEW briefed the Commissioner Secretary about the functioning of the office besides apprising of the number of awareness camps conducted and women beneficiaries benefited and assisted through the Hub.
Sheetal Nanda appreciated the overall functioning of both the offices and emphasized the significance of providing a nurturing and welcoming environment to the victims of domestic violence. She stressed to treat the victims in a compassionate manner and ensure their issues are resolved in a time bound manner.
Regarding upgradation of infrastructure, the Commissioner Secretary asked the District Social Welfare Officer (Nodal Officer Mission Shakti) to take up necessary action in coordination with the district administration for the same.
