Srinagar, May 13: Trekking expeditions have resumed in Kashmir as small tours are being conducted to kickstart the sport.
Trekking expeditions to the higher altitudes and greater lakes dotting the majestic landscape, has gained popularity for the last few years. Every year scores of expeditions are conducted by the experts every year to explore the serene beauty of higher altitude while escaping the sweltering temperatures.
Trekking to Greater Lakes and higher altitudes remain suspended during the winter, which opens during the month of June.
As the mercury has started climbing, a small trekking expedition in Kashmir has resumed in the valley.
Currently, destinations including Marchoi, Diskal, Lidderwath and Mohand Marg have become hotspots, which receive a good number of trekkers on a daily basis.
“Winter treks have officially stopped in Kashmir. Major trekking expeditions, which cover Greater lakes, shall begin in the month of June. Right now offbeat tours are being conducted, which cover Marchoi, Diskal, Lidderwath and Mohand Marg,” Mohammad Arif, founder of Cliffhangers India.
Trekkers said they conduct these small tours to prepare themselves for bigger expeditions during summer months.”We are thrilled to resume trekking tours in Kashmir as the weather becomes more conducive to outdoor activities. With the snow melting and the flowers blooming, it’s the perfect time to explore the natural beauty of our valley,” said Mehraj Ahmad, a trekker.
The local guides are receiving a good number of tourists as trekkers to these spots. “This trend has been very new for domestic tourists. We now received a good number of tourists who prefer to trek and explore the offbeat places of Kashmir. Right now we are being accompanied by multiple groups of tourists who explore places including Diskal, Lidderwath and Mohand Marg,” he said.
The local guides said they take care of every facility for the customers to ensure a safe and secure tour.
We are adhering to safety guidelines and take necessary precautions while venturing into the mountains. This includes carrying adequate supplies, informing local authorities about their itinerary, and being mindful of weather conditions,” Umar Ahmad Khan, another guide said.
