Srinagar, May 20: Residents from several areas of HMT in Srinagar outskirts and it’s adjoining areas have expressed concern over the “unregulated” movement of speeding tippers in the residential area, causing fear and risks lives of residents.
Several residents, highlighted the dangers posed by these tippers. Shabir Ahmad, a local resident, said, “If I have to cross my lane, I have to ensure there is no tipper coming because they won’t stop and can run over anyone as they move at high speed. I don’t even let my kids ride bicycles now.”
Another resident, Irfan Ahmad, said that their road, which serves merely as a link road, has effectively turned into a highway.
He pointed out that tippers loaded with construction materials are using these link roads throughout the day to avoid the main highway.
“These tippers are escaping the main highway and are using the link roads. I think there is a cut-out time for them, but there seems to be no one who can check their entry into no-entry zones,” he said.
The residents of the area said that they are particularly worried about the safety of their children.
They stated that they have to be present at bus stops to assist their children in crossing the road safely when they return from school.
They said that the threat of accidents is highest during the evening and morning hours, with several accidents reported recently in nearby areas due to the speeding tippers.
“There is a significant threat of accidents, particularly during the evening and morning hours. There have been some accidents recently in our nearby areas, like Maloora area, due to the movement of these speeding tippers. Something should be done to stop this,” the residents said.
Despite repeated attempts to contact traffic officials regarding the issue, there was no response.
The story will be updated if any response is received from the traffic authorities. (KNO)
