Srinagar, May 20: The fervor and enthusiasm for the parliamentary elections was visible on the ground for the first time across north Kashmir districts as the most of the shops remained closed and the thin vehicular movement was witnessed in Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency amidst the brisk voting in 18 assembly segments.
The people were seen heading towards the polling booths since the wee hours of this morning, who preferred to close down their business establishments to be a part of democratic exercise.
Thin vehicular movement was witnessed throughout the day while the majority of shops remained closed as the people enthusiastically joined their friends and neighbours in the large lines to cast their ballot with fervor.
The situation was witnessed in almost every district and assembly segment where the voters were seen waiting for their turn to exercise their franchise and vote for their candidates.
“It was my duty to cast the ballot today and thus I decided to keep my shop closed for a day. Many other shopkeepers like me didn’t open their shops today as they also had to vote for their candidates,” Ali Muhammad, a shopkeeper at Handwara, said.
Like Ali Muhammad, there were several other traders, who preferred to close down their shops to participate in the democratic exercise with much enthusiasm, witnessed for the first time amongst the voters.
Pertinently, a massive participation of voters was witnessed across north Kashmir’s Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency where a huge voter turnout has been recorded today, surpassing the previous turnout. (KNO)
