Srinagar, Jun 20: On this Eid-ul-Adha, the people across Kashmir have consumed mutton worth Rs 72 crore in the Valley with the concerned dealers informing that 400 trucks loaded with the livestock reached here last four days ahead of the Muslim festival.
General Secretary of the Mutton Dealers Association Kashmir, Mehraj ud Din, said that 400 trucks loaded with the livestock reached Kashmir four days ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha.
According to the data shared by him, 60,000 livestock reached here particularly for the Eid, which costs around 72 crore.
He further informed that Kashmir witnessed significant mutton trade, with approximately 1800 trucks loaded with live sheep entering the region between May 15 to June 15.
Each truck carried around 150 livestock, he said, adding that despite the substantial influx, market sales were notably lower than last year’s Eid ul-Adha, resulting in a surplus of mutton towards the end of the period.
“The unsold stock was primarily composed of local supplies and a smaller portion from Delhi Walla sheep. Nevertheless, there was no shortage of meat in the market, ensuring that consumers had adequate access to mutton,” he said.
Sharing details about the monthly sales, he said the total stock brought into the valley was approximately worth Rs 324 crores for the month.
