CBC organises awareness program on new criminal laws at Heerpora Shopian

Shopian, Aug 5: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Field Office Anantnag on Monday organised an Integrated Communication and Outreach Program (ICOP) at Government Higher Secondary School,Heerpora in Shopian district.
The day-long program was organised to educate the masses, especially students, about the newly implemented criminal laws viz the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Shakshya Adhiniyam -2023 and to spread awareness about important legal reforms for an informed and empowered citizenry. Information about different aspects of the new criminal justice framework was provided using an integrated communication strategy involving expert lectures, informative standees, handbills, interactive student activities and theme based cultural programmes. Resource persons from the police, prosecution, and education departments delivered speeches on various aspects of the new criminal laws.
The event was presided over by Sh. Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat ,Station House Officer, Police Station, Heerpora. Addressing a gathering of students, teachers and prominent citizens, Inspector Imtiyaz detailed out the salient features of the three new criminal laws and explained how the laws differ from the existing laws emphasising that the new laws prioritise justice over punishment.
He informed that the new laws have been conceptualised to make justice delivery convenient ,faster and transparent.
Imtiyaz provided live demonstration of recording the evidence at crime scenes using the e-Sakhshya mobile application used by the investigating officers. He also asked the people to download the Sankalan mobile application developed by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for detailed information about the new laws and comparisons with the earlier laws.
Field Publicity Officer, CBC Anantnag, Shahid Mohammad Lone, outlined several government schemes aimed at youth empowerment. He highlighted the programme’s focus on various facets of the new criminal laws and advised the younger generation to become responsible citizens.
Field Publicity Officer CBC Srinagar, Naseer Ahmad Rather, reiterated the bureau’s commitment to spreading awareness about the Central government’s developmental initiatives and flagship schemes. He outlined several government schemes aimed at youth empowerment and urged students to harness the power of education for a brighter future.
Other speakers elaborated on the new laws and the justice system in India, underscoring the importance of adhering to these laws for the nation’s progress.
The artists empanelled with the CBC presented theme based musical programmes celebrating justice, citizens’ rights and responsibilities. An open quiz competition was also held, with winners receiving certificates and mementoes.
