Digital governance must deliver results

Why Pay-As-You-Consume is gaining momentum in 2026?

Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing further augmentation of infrastructure in the power sector for the last couple of years, but what remains unchanged is the distribution of electricity to the consumers in the Union Territory, especially in the Valley. Be it winters or summers, the situation has remained almost the same as the heat wave has been leading to the decline in power supply in summers while the usage in winters is hampering the adequate supply. Such a situation has been pushing the common masses to the wall as the people have been facing such electricity woes equally. Those who have been cooperating in paying their bills on time too are being pushed to the wall as the government has been making it clear that the round-the-clock electricity can be ensured only when the people will pay their bills. There should be some relief to the consumers, who have been paying their bills on time. The time has come when the government should identify the places where the majority of the people are paying their bills on time and should ensure at least better electricity supply to them so that the remaining consumers from other places who are not paying their bills too would take a lesson and pay their bills on time. There should be some measures that would help the consumers here to witness at least some improvement in the electricity supply, especially during the peak time of summers and winters as well.
