Srinagar, Oct 16: After extending support to the Omar Abdullah led government in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress on Wednesday decided not to join the council of ministers for sometime as a mark of protest against the delay in restoration of Statehood.
As per statement, the Pradesh Congress Committee President, Tariq Hameed Karra, said that as the restoration of statehood promised by the government has not been fulfilled yet, the party is unhappy over the delay and “therefore, we are not joining the ministry at the moment,” he said.
Karra said that the Congress has strongly demanded from the Centre to restore statehood to J-K, besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi has time and again in public meetings promised the same.
He added that the Congress party would carry on the fight for the restoration of statehood to J&K.
Meanwhile, the PCC leaders, wishing anonymity, said that the Congress has taken a stand over the delay in restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir as promised by the government.
However, they informed that the decision of taking oath as council of minister by any elected Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) will be taken after the elections in Maharashtra are over.
“At present, there has been no decision from the leadership in this regard, but it is expected to be taken once the elections in Maharashtra concludes,” one of the leaders said.
