Inspects work progress, stresses for safe traffic pliability provisions

Ganderbal, Aug 9: Member Parliament, Dr. Farooq Abdullah Monday visited Z-morh and Zojila project sites of NHIDCL, accompanied by Gurjeet Kambo, Executive Director (Projects), NHIDCL to inspect the work progress on both projects.
During the visit, Dr. Abdullah drove through the entire stretch of Z-Morh Tunnel of 6.5 km which is halmark perspective as he becomes the first dignitary ever since NHIDCL achieved the breakthrough in June-2021.
Dr. Abdullah while appreciating APCO Infratech for the progress of the works also congratulated NHIDCL and Government of India for expeditious execution of works and providing the perspective all weather connectivity to Sonamarg and subsequently for Ladakh when Zojila tunnel is accomplished.
The current scope of Zojila tunnel is provisioned with a single tube with bi-directional traffic. Dr. Abdullah stressed upon the provision of two tubes for safe traffic pliability and especially the extreme weather condition which Sonamarg and Kargil are subjected to.
Dr. Abdullah said that Zojila tunnel would be instrumental in benefitting social and economic development of the region apart from boosting the tourism in Sonamarg region as well as Ladakh region once completed.
Impressed by the performance of NHIDCL, Dr. Abdullah also emphasized upon entrustment of more National Highways stretches like Srinagar-Baramulla and Srinagar-Sonamarg to NHIDCL for maintenance works.
