Srinagar, Aug 12: The residents of Kanihama area of Nowgam in Srinagar outskirts here have started repairing the Nowgam Byepass-Kanihama road on their own after no heed was paid by the concerned authorities with regard to the macadamization of the pivotal roads.
The locals said that it has been years since the road in the locality has been macadamized, adding that the road has developed potholes, thus adding to the miseries of the commuters as well as the pedestrians.
“We have been approaching the concerned higher ups regarding the macadamization of the dilapidated road. However, no heed was paid by them so far,” they said.
“It’s month of Muharram and these 10 days of Ashura have specialty for devotees as these potholes are just outside the Imam Bada,” they said, adding that “we have been told that funds are exhausted as the only funds for 7 KMs has been approved rest amount is not approved yet.”
They said that the residents later decided to fill the potholes on their own, adding that the concerned department must macadamize the area so that they could heave a sigh of relief. (KNO)
