Police arrest four drug peddlers in Srinagar, Awantipora

Srinagar, Dec 7: Police have arrested 4 drug peddlers in Srinagar and Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police party of Police Station Nowhatta during a routine naka checking at Malkha Chowk, Nowhatta intercepted a suspicious person. He has been identified as Sajad Sheikh, son of Baktawar Sheikh, resident of Sheikh Colony, Hawal. During search, approximately 3.370 kilograms of charas powder-like substance and 20 grams of charas was recovered from his possession and he was subsequently arrested.
In Awantipora, a police party of Police Station Awantipora headed by SHO Police Station Awantipora at a checkpoint established at Hatiwara Awantipora intercepted three suspicious persons. During search, 65 grams of charas like substance was recovered from their possession and were subsequently arrested. They have been identified as Danish Rasheed Bhat son of Ab Rasheed Bhat, Danish Ashraf Dar son of Mohd Ashraf and Umer Rasool Dar son of Gh. Rasool Dar, all residents of Lethpora.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated.
We urge the public that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law.
