DLSA Kupwara holds training programme for members of LSUC, LSUM

Kupwara, Jan 4: District Legal Services Authority, Kupwara, under the aegis of NALSA and JK Legal Services Authority, successfully conducted Four Day orientation programmes for the members of Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC) and Legal Services Unit for Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (LSUM), as per the Training Module and Curriculum developed by NALSA.
The programme was organized from January 01 to 04 at Conference Hall ADR Centre, Court Complex Kupwara.
The orientation programmes was carried under the supervision of Shazia Tabasum, Chairperson, DLSA (Pr. District & Session Judge) Kupwara and guidance of Moneer Ahmad, Secretary (DLSA)/ Sub-Judge, Kupwara.
Shazia Tabasum, Chairperson, DLSA, Pr. District Sessions Judge, Kupwara inaugurated the programme on January 01 in presence of Khemraj Addl. District & Sessions Judge, Geelani Ahmad, SSP Kupwara and Muneer Ahmad, Secretary, DLSA (Sub-Judge) Kupwara, Mozamil Yousuf, Deputy Chief LADC Kupwara, Advocates, Panel Lawyers, and PLVs.
The said orientation programmes was aimed at disseminating information and effective implementation of the NALSA (Child Friendly Legal Services for Children) Scheme, and NALSA (Legal Services To Persons with Mental Illness and Person with Intellectual Disabilities) Scheme, 2024.
Javid Ahmad Geelani Retd. Judicial Officer, Advisor/ Mentor to the LSUC & LSUM virtually joined the programmes. He provided an overview of the units mission, services and policy framework in the context of children.
He also emphasized on the effective implementation of the NALSA (Child Friendly Services For Children) , Schemes, 2024 and schemes formulated prior to that.
Secretary DLSA, Kupwara spoke on the objective of the schemes to ensure that legal services are accessible for children, including children with disabilities, at all stages of legal proceedings, including in civil, criminal and/or administrative matters and to facilitate and foster a child-friendly and child-sensitive environment within the justice system.
Besides, to make children feel valued and encouraged to voice their opinion in judicial proceedings, thereby protecting their best interests in all matters affecting their lives. He urged the participants to implement the learning at gross root level and reach out to the children in need, and mentally ill persons for any guidance and legal help.
Muzamil Yousuf, Deputy Chief LADC, Shah Khalid, Majid Mushtaq, Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone, members of the LSUC and LSUM unit spoke on the topics as to how the legal aid to children may be made effective under the Schemes of 2024 and rendering of free legal services to children in conflict with law, at Police Stations and in the conduct of any case or other legal proceeding before any Court, JJB or other authority or tribunal and the giving of advice on any legal matter.
At the end of event interactive sessions were also held in which both the Panel lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers participated enthusiastically.
