With the rainfall deficit already taking toll on the lives of common masses as the water reservoirs are almost running dry, the authorities have now issued a notice for Srinagar residents, announcing that the water supply shall remain affected for 30 hours in various areas. The announcement has been made to carry out necessary repair work of Sindh Power Canal HEP Old Ganderbal and Desilting of Forebay. As a result, the raw water supplies to Water Treatment Plants Nishat, Alusteng & Rangil will be severely affected and potable water supply shall remain affected in major parts of Srinagar City and the adjacent areas. Most of the areas across Srinagar are usually getting a supply for few minutes in a day, which is not even sufficient for them for one day, but the necessary repairing would land them in trouble as the water supply is expected to remain shut for the 30-hour period, which would end up in miseries to the common consumers across Srinagar. The decision at the time when the taps are already running dry most of the period in a day, is expected to further push the people in trouble, thereby needing a positive assistance from the concerned authorities to ensure that the people would not face any hardships during the period from February 22. In this regard, the concerned department should consider providing water to the local residents in Srinagar areas during the period at least once through the water tankers so that they will not face any hardships and the assistance could help them to get water supply during the 30-hour-long period.
