Peace, brotherhood, progress must guide us: Satish Sharma

Srinagar, Jun 15: National Conference chief spokesperson and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Sunday said the BJP is giving a religious angle to the Urdu language, which he termed as historically inaccurate and factually wrong.
Speaking to KNS, he said Urdu is not associated with any class, region, or religion, but is a historical and administrative language used in Jammu and Kashmir for over 130 years. He said during the reign of the Maharaja, all administrative work was conducted in Persian, but later Urdu was adopted as a unifying language.
Sadiq said Shajras (ancestral records) have long been written in Urdu, and it is not possible to change all those documents now. He said it is wrong to view every issue through a religious lens and called for acknowledgment of Urdu’s historical role in administration, including in judiciary and revenue departments.
He referred to the recent statement made by the Lieutenant Governor regarding the Home Department’s responsibility for a government appointment, saying there appeared to be a contradiction between the LG’s public statement and a later clarification from his office.
Sadiq said if the LG’s role is limited to policing, it is unclear how rule relaxations for other government departments were granted. He said the existence of such dual narratives creates confusion and could point to a dual power structure, which he said was wrong.
He said Jammu and Kashmir has a stable government and the people have given a full mandate. He said early restoration of statehood is necessary to end such confusion and ensure smooth governance. (KNS)
