Srinagar, Sep 7: Lieutenant General PGK Menon, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps Tuesday flagged off a Mountaineering Expedition to five unclimbed peaks north of Central Rimo Glacier.
According to a statement, the mountaineering team of Zedang Sumpa Battalion will aim to ascend ‘Five’ 6000 meter peaks in an uncharted region.
The expedition team comprising of 30 seasoned mountaineers, will negotiate challenging Glaciers and arduous climb to unfurl the National Flag on these heights.
The expedition will be a maiden attempt to summit the peaks and also will be the first expedition by a single unit to attempt five peaks simultaneously, the statement said.
The expedition will not only foster the spirit of adventure among the troops but also go a long way in motivating the troops in pursuing mountaineering as an adventure sport.
