A ray of hope

Keep Kashmir connected

A hope has once again rekindled the tourism industry after the arrival of tourists to Jammu and Kashmir following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. Tourism in Jammu and Kashmir is not just an economic driver, but a powerful symbol of normalcy, unity and trust. Every visitor who walks through the meadows of Gulmarg or rows a Shikara across the Dal Lake becomes a witness to the resilience, warmth and beauty that defines the Valley, far removed from the shadows cast by violence. In the aftermath of the Pahalgam tragedy, the government must act swiftly, not only to reassure visitors but to elevate their experience, transforming them into ambassadors of truth about the real Jammu and Kashmir. These tourists, through their voices and social media feeds, carry a credibility that official campaigns often struggle to match. Their testimonies can counterbalance fear and misinformation, becoming the most powerful antidote to terror’s aim of isolating the Valley. To achieve this, a multipronged strategy is essential. Enhanced security infrastructure around tourist circuits must be paired with visible, friendly policing that ensures safety without creating an atmosphere of fear. Simultaneously, the administration should launch confidence-building initiatives involving local communities and tour operators, ensuring that hospitality and cultural warmth are experienced in every interaction. Information campaigns highlighting tourist experiences and countering negative narratives should be promoted aggressively through traditional and digital media. Collaborating with influencers, travel bloggers and journalists who have recently visited can amplify the message of hope and hospitality. Most crucially, the government must show empathy and solidarity with those affected by the Pahalgam attack, ensuring that justice is served and preventive intelligence is strengthened. This is a turning point. If handled with clarity, compassion and courage, the aftermath of this tragedy can become a foundation for a stronger, more unified push toward peace and prosperity.
