Srinagar, Jul 1: In view of the 8th Muharram procession in the Srinagar city, the special traffic arrangements have been put in place, particularly along the stretch from Guru Bazar to Dalgate, officials said on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic City Srinagar, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, said the department had already issued a detailed traffic advisory for Muharram processions across the city.
“The ongoing processions in areas like Rainawari, Saida Kadal and others are proceeding smoothly as per the plan,” he said. He added that no vehicular movement is allowed in areas designated for the procession, as per the earlier advisory.
“For the 8th Muharram procession from Guru Bazar to Dalgate, MA Road will be fully affected. A separate advisory for that day will be in place, and we urge commuters to avoid the route and plan accordingly,” SSP Ajaz said.
He said traffic from Radio Kashmir and Abdullah Bridge will be diverted through Residency Road, then routed via Hari Singh High Street towards Jehangir Chowk.
“Vehicles from Downtown Srinagar will be diverted via Habba Kadal. These changes will be enforced on the day of the procession,” he said.
The SSP further added that adequate parking arrangements will be made at Gindun (Joggers) Park Rajbagh, SP College, and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, SSP traffic has urged citizens to follow the guidelines strictly to ensure smooth movement and avoid inconvenience. (KNO)
