Decline in Hajj applications deserves attention

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, is witnessing a massive rise in vehicular traffic every day. From locals commuting to work, to tourists exploring the city, the roads are bustling, but disturbingly, they remain poorly managed. One of the most overlooked issues contributing to this growing chaos is the absence of proper traffic signboards. In a city where traffic congestion is already a major challenge, the lack of clear and visible signage only makes things worse. Motorists are often left confused at intersections, unaware of speed limits, one-way routes, or pedestrian zones. For visitors unfamiliar with the city, navigating Srinagar’s roads becomes stressful and disorienting, leading to wrong turns, delays, and in many cases, traffic violations or accidents. The problem isn’t just about inconvenience; it’s about public safety. Without adequate signage, enforcing traffic laws becomes difficult. Drivers cannot be expected to follow rules that are not clearly communicated. This fosters indiscipline on the roads, putting both pedestrians and commuters at risk. What makes this issue even more frustrating is that it is entirely preventable. Installing traffic signboards does not require massive investment or time. It only demands planning, coordination, and the will to prioritize road safety. As Srinagar continues to grow and modernize, it is crucial that its basic infrastructure keeps pace. Authorities must recognize that traffic signage is not optional, but essential. Addressing this issue is a small but vital step toward making Srinagar’s roads safer, more navigable, and better prepared for the future. It’s time for the administration to stop neglecting the obvious. The roads are choked with vehicles; let’s not choke them further with silence and inaction.
