Srinagar, Sep 30: Bringing relief to passengers ahead of the festive season, the Railways has announced the resumption of 16 trains, including eight pairs, to and from Jammu between October 2 and October 8. The services had been suspended following the devastating floods of August 26 that disrupted key routes.
Railway officials said that the trains would gradually resume operations in the fourth phase of restoration. In the earlier three phases, only nine trains had been brought back on track. The officials confirmed that major repair work on damaged bridges has now been completed, allowing for safe movement of trains.
The services being restored include Jammu Tawi-Kanpur Central on October 2, Jammu Tawi-Yoganagari Rishikesh on October 5, Jammu Tawi-Barauni on October 3, Jammu Tawi-Sealdah on October 6, Jammu Tawi-Guwahati Amarnath on October 3, Jammu Tawi-Gorakhpur on October 4, and Jammu Tawi-Bhagalpur on October 7. Officials said the resumption of these long-distance trains would ease the travel rush and help passengers planning festive travel across states.
Meanwhile, infrastructure upgrades at Jammu Railway Station are also underway. A new foot overbridge (FOB), designed to connect seven platforms, is nearing completion. Railway engineers said around 70 percent of the work has been completed. The FOB is being equipped with lifts on two platforms, aimed at providing greater convenience to elderly and disabled passengers.
Passengers will be able to use the FOB to travel from platform one to platform seven with access points clearly marked in Urdu, English, and Dogri. Safety railings have been installed along the bridge, and signage will be placed to guide passengers to respective platforms. Once complete, officials said, the new FOB will make Jammu Railway Station more modern, safe, and accessible for travellers.
