Srinagar, Sep 21: In Jammu and Kashmir, the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) at secondary and higher secondary level continues to remain at a ‘lower side’ with 58.66 percent and 38.40 percent at both levels respectively.
According to the official documents, “Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) as per Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) plus 2019-20 at secondary level is 58.66 and at Higher secondary level is 38.40 respectively.”
The documents state that the Ministry of Education (MoE) has asked the Jammu and Kashmir government to improve the GER at both levels.
“The Union Territory (UT) needs to develop an effective and comprehensive strategy to improve the gross enrolment at both the levels,” MoE said.
Besides, the MoE has also said that the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 advocates full equity and inclusion of Children With Special Needs (CWSN) and to ensure that all students are able to thrive in the education system.
MoE said, “UT needs to fulfill this provision by providing all kinds of facilities including availability of ramps in all government schools,”
The documents also state that the Jammu and Kashmir UT shall ensure the facility in the current year 2021-22.
Pertinently, GER determines the number of students enrolled in school at several different grade levels (like elementary, middle school and high school), and uses it to show the ratio of the number of students who live in that country to those who qualify for the particular grade level.
