Kidney transplantation approved at GMC Srinagar’s Super Specialty Hospital

Srinagar, Sep 25: Directorate General of Health Services, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has certified the departments of Urology and Nephrology at Super Speciality Hospital, Government Medical College Srinagar for performing kidney transplantations.
The certification was given under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act and Tissues Act 1994.
While speaking on the occasion, Principal/Dean, Professors Samia Rashid said that she is very happy to see that the institution got approval for starting a renal transplant programme.
Samia congratulate both the departments and their HODs Dr. Syed Sajjad Nazi and Dr. Tajamul Hussain Mir for their hard work in getting it approved.
“The process of conducting renal transplantation in Super Specialty Hospital Srinagar has started and first kidney transplant is expected to start in November this year,” officials said.
“Establishing another renal transplantation centre in Srinagar would be beneficial to chronic renal disease patients who require kidney transplantation and don’t need to wait or travel outside,” they said.
The certificate of registration issued by Directorate of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family welfare, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reads, “that this is to certify that Super Speciality Hospital, Government Medical College, Srinagar has been inspected and certificate of registration is granted for performing the Kidney transplantation under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act & Tissues Act, 1994.”
“This certificate of registration is valid for a period of five years from the date of issue,” It adds.
“This permission is being given with the current facilities and staff shown in the present application form. Any reduction in the staff and/or facility must be brought to the notice of the undersigned,” It said.
