Stray dogs unleash terror on roads

Years elapsed since the government claimed to have taken steps to end the terror unleashed by the stray dogs in the Valley especially in and round the City areas. However, the situation remained unchanged for years together as the dog bite cases continue to mount in the Union Territory with each passing day. The stray dogs have unleashed terror on the roads to the extent that nobody dares to walk on the road alone especially in the morning and evening hours. The figure available reveals that 30-40 new dog bite cases are being reported on daily basis while the measures that were promised to the people to end such a terror is still missing on the road, thus leaving the local residents to lurch at large. The sterilization process that was being carried out to end the terror on roads has also come to a grinding halt for unknown reasons, thus leaving the dog population to increase further. One fails to understand that why the process was stopped by the concerned authorities from time to time. It is not for the first time that the process has got halted, but such a halt was witnessed in the past as well. Besides, the hospitals where these patients are being rushed for the treatment also lack permanent staff, which adds to the miseries of such patients. The authorities have utterly failed to appoint a permanent employee to deal the huge chunk of patients on daily basis at SMHS hospital and several other hospitals too. Although an anti-rabies clinics have been established at the hospitals, but lack of permanent staff is causing hardships to the patients. Therefore, the government should take all the measures to end the sufferings of people on the roads as well in the hospitals so that the terror unleashed by the stray dogs will be put to an end.
