Advancing brain health: How technology is transforming brain tumor treatment

Even as Srinagar showcases its transformation under the Smart City project, the recurring inundation of roads and lanes in Lal Chowk after rainfall tells a different story, which is an incomplete planning and unmet expectations. As the city’s commercial heart, Lal Chowk is not just a marketplace but a symbol of urban functionality. Yet, each spell of rain exposes persistent drainage failures that disrupt daily life and dent public confidence. Despite major investments in infrastructure upgrades, the continued waterlogging raises serious questions about the effectiveness of execution. Smart city initiatives are meant to deliver resilient, future-ready urban systems. However, flooded streets, clogged drains, and stalled traffic reflect gaps in design, maintenance, or both. For shopkeepers, commuters, and pedestrians, even moderate rainfall becomes a source of inconvenience and economic loss. The issue is not merely about discomfort but about accountability. If flagship projects fail to address basic urban challenges like drainage, their credibility comes under scrutiny. Authorities must conduct a thorough assessment of the drainage network in Lal Chowk, identify bottlenecks, and implement immediate corrective measures. Regular desilting, proper slope management, and integration of stormwater systems are essential to prevent recurring flooding. Equally important is time-bound action. Prolonged delays will only deepen public frustration. The promise of a “smart” Srinagar must translate into tangible improvements on the ground, especially in its busiest commercial zones. Resolving the waterlogging problem in Lal Chowk is not optional, but imperative. Swift and effective intervention can restore public faith and ensure that residents and traders finally heave a sigh of relief, even when the skies open up.
