Baramulla, Jun 6: A woman was detained under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA) in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district for her alleged involvement in unlawful and anti-national activities, police said.
A police spokesperson, in a statement, said the detainee, identified as Haseena Begum, wife of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat and a resident of Sheeri in Baramulla, was taken into preventive custody following the execution of a detention warrant issued under the PSA.
The detention order was issued by the District Magistrate, Baramulla, after reviewing her alleged involvement in multiple criminal cases registered in different districts of Kashmir.
“Cases against her include FIRs registered in Handwara, Bandipora and Sopore between 2019 and 2022 under various sections of law, including provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), IPC, Public Property Damage Prevention Act and Sabotage Act,” the spokesperson said. Following the execution of the warrant, the woman was shifted to District Jail Bhaderwah, where she has been lodged under preventive detention provisions.”
Baramulla Police said the action was aimed at maintaining public order and security and formed part of ongoing efforts to curb activities considered detrimental to peace and stability. (KNO)
