New Delhi, Aug 3: A total of 1,935 companies registered under the Companies Act, 2013, having women directors, were recorded in Jammu and Kashmir during the last three financial years, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs informed the Lok Sabha on Monday.
According to the data placed before the House, J&K had 643 such companies with 819 women directors in 2023-24. The number stood at 561 companies with 676 women directors in 2024-25, while 731 companies with 856 women directors were recorded during 2025-26.
The Ministry clarified that the Companies Act does not specifically use the term “leaders of companies.” However, under Section 149, certain listed and public companies are required to appoint at least one woman director. The Centre said no specific initiative has been undertaken by the Ministry exclusively for women entrepreneurs in rural and semi-urban areas. However, measures aimed at promoting ease of doing business, including simplified incorporation and compliance procedures, are applicable to all entrepreneurs, including women.
The Ministry also informed that no specific programme had been organised by it in Maharashtra’s Akola district for promoting women-led enterprises. Among the measures to simplify business incorporation, the Ministry has introduced the SPICe+ and AGILE-PRO-S integrated web-based system, enabling applicants to obtain multiple registrations through a single-window platform.
