Srinagar, Sep 8: A high-level deputation of depositors of the Jammu and Kashmir State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (JK-SCARD Bank), representing different areas of the Union Territory Tuesday met Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather here.
The delegation urged the Speaker to take up the already delayed process of releasing their hard-earned savings invested in the form of Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDRs) in the 60-year-old SCARD Bank, which is guaranteed by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, during the forthcoming Assembly session to be held in Srinagar.
Keeping in view their genuine financial hardships and prolonged mental harassment, the deputation submitted a memorandum to the Speaker and requested him to take up the important matter of public concern with the Government, Registrar and the Secretary/Commissioner of the Cooperative Department.
The depositors also urged that the process for the return of approximately Rs 183 crore deposited by the investors be initiated on an urgent basis.
After patiently listening to the delegation, the Legislative Assembly Speaker assured them that he would seriously look into their genuine demands and take all necessary steps for the expeditious and time-bound disposal of their grievances.
The Speaker further assured the delegation that efforts would be made to ensure that the depositors get back their own hard-earned money at the earliest without any further delay.
