J&K records near-normal seasonal rainfall: MeT

Srinagar, Sep 14: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded near-normal precipitation during the current season despite significant month-to-month variations, with July witnessing 35 per cent excess rainfall and August recording around 25 per cent deficit, the Meteorological Department said.
Director, Meteorological Department, Srinagar, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that the overall precipitation scenario in Jammu and Kashmir remained almost near-normal despite contrasting rainfall patterns in the two months.
“July was good in terms of rainfall. In J&K, there was 35 per cent excess rainfall,” Ahmad said.
He said August, however, recorded around 25 per cent rainfall deficit, with some spells during the month but no consistent or widespread rainfall activity. “There were some spells in August, but these were not consistent or widespread. No such activity happened,” he added.
The MeT Director said despite the deficit recorded in August, the overall seasonal precipitation situation in Jammu and Kashmir remained near normal.
The variations in monthly rainfall come amid changing weather patterns being observed across the Union Territory in recent years.
Ahmad said the precipitation pattern could continue to fluctuate, with weather activity remaining dependent on atmospheric conditions. (KNO)
