Srinagar, Nov 4: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to receive light rainfall at isolated places and snowfall over higher reaches on Thursday, while temperatures are expected to dip further and morning fog may become more frequent across the region.
Director Meteorological Department Mukhtar Ahmad said that another weather system is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir on November 10 and 11, bringing the possibility of light rain in parts of both divisions and snowfall over higher-altitude areas.
Ahmad said weather conditions are likely to remain largely dry across the region after the November 5 spell until November 9.
He said isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out during November 10 and 11, although no significant weather activity is expected under the current forecast.
Meanwhile, minimum temperatures continued to remain low across several parts of Kashmir, with Kupwara and Gulmarg recording sub-zero temperatures on Wednesday.
According to the India Meteorological Department’s evening bulletin, Kupwara recorded a minimum temperature of 1.8 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg settled at 1.6 degrees Celsius. Both stations recorded temperatures 0.1 degrees below their respective seasonal averages.
Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 4.1 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above normal, while Qazigund registered 3.4 degrees Celsius and Pahalgam 3.1 degrees Celsius.
Kokernag recorded a low of 6 degrees Celsius, while Jammu city registered a minimum temperature of 15.1 degrees Celsius.
On the maximum temperature front, Kupwara was the warmest among the reported Kashmir stations at 23.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Srinagar and Qazigund, both recording 22 degrees Celsius.
Ahmad said winter has almost set in across the region, with shallow fog is being witnessed over plains during morning hours. He cautioned that foggy conditions and reduced visibility could become more frequent as temperatures continue to fall.
He advised farmers to make use of the prevailing dry weather for harvesting, threshing, fresh sowing and other agricultural activities.
The MeT director also urged commuters to follow traffic advisories, particularly while travelling through higher reaches and vulnerable stretches of roads. (KNO)
