Handwara, Apr 29: Expressing satisfaction and happiness, the Jammu and Kashmir police Thursday reunited a 24-year-old youth with his family members at Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district after remaining missing for a decade.
Addressing a news conference, Station House Officer (SHO), Vilgam, Iftikhar Ahmad said that that the youth had gone missing in 2010 from his native place which is forest land, and the family members were of the view that he is no more given the human-animal conflict area.
He said that some traces were received over two months back about him being alive and after using all the resources including the human he was traced from Srinagar and today handed over to the legal heirs after all the legal formalities.
The SHO said that the youth was scared of returning home saying that he didn’t want to get punished or scolded adding that a missing report was last filed with people and the investigation was underway since then but it has now been closed.
He informed that the youth revealed to have worked in Jammu, Srinagar and presently at IUST Awantipora Canteen.
The SHO further said that it is not only a joyous moment for the family members only rather for the Handwara Police as well who have reunited a missing son with them after so many years.
He identified the youth as Mohammad Ashraf Chauhan (24) son of Fazal Din Chauhan a resident of Suchalyari in Handwara.
Meanwhile, Ashraf said that he had left home for a job and then decided to stay in Srinagar.
The family members said that they failed to recognize him at the first but the efforts of the Handwara police are praiseworthy who reunited him with them after a long gap.
