Pulwama, May 1: Timber smugglers on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday attacked a night patrolling party of Forest Control Room of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Sources said that the ‘brutal attack’ by timber smugglers was carried out when the team was on a routine night patrolling in Mitrigam village of the district.
“During the course of night patrolling, few timber-laden horses were spotted and when employees from Forest Control Room Pulwama tried to intercept, they were attacked brutally with stones and sticks at around 3 AM in the morning hours of Saturday,” said one of the employees of the Forest Department.
The Department’s official vehicle (JK22-1247) also got damaged in the incident.
The assailants managed to escape along with horses after the attack.
Insiders said that shortly after the incident, Range Officer Romshi called and sought assistance from Pulwama Police. The Station House Officer Police Station Pulwama immediately sent a police party for the rescue and support.
A police official said that the identity of the culprits is being ascertained and an FIR has to be lodged in the concerned Police Station. (KNT)
