143 arrested, 79 FIRs registered across Kashmir: Police

Srinagar, May 4: The Corona Curfew continued to remain in place for the fifth straight day on Tuesday with police stating that 143 persons have been arrested and 79 FIRs were registered against the persons who were found violating the lockdown norms.

The lockdown was imposed on last Thursday evening and as per the orders will continue to remain in place till Thursday in an order to prevent the virus from spreading.

A day after Srinagar witnessed brisk vehicular movement coupled with traffic snarls at various vital junctions, the district administration and police tightened its noose against the norm violators and seized many vehicles.

Witnesses said that Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar were seen enforcing the lockdown personally.

Eye-witnesses informed that police and paramilitary troops were deployed although in large number to enforce the lockdown restrictions. The barricades and concertina wires were erected at many places and bridges to thwart the public movement, they said.

Meanwhile, all the shops and business establishments barring emergency services, standalone shops remained closed throughout the day in Srinagar and other districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Besides, the public transport with 50 per cent seating capacity was also allowed to ply today by the authorities.

Moreover, during the last 24 hours, Police has arrested 143 persons, lodged 79 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 84,930 from 620 people for violating the guidelines, rules throughout Kashmir valley.

Besides, police spokesman said that seven vehicles were also seized in Budgam and Bandipora for violating guidelines and restrictions.

“The special drive against the violators of Covid-19 guidelines, rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir Valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs and guidelines envisaged by government to curb COVID-19 pandemic,” police said.

Meanwhile, police urged people to cooperate in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs, guidelines and protocols for the safety of the people.
