Budgam, May 11: Chadoora residents on Tuesday took to streets in Darbagh Panzan in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for allegedly supplying impure drinking water to the village.
The protesters said that the water tank supplies contaminated drinking water to them.
“The water tank from which we are getting water is not being filtered which has resulted in contamination of the water. We approached the authorities many times in this regard but they dejected us always,” the residents said.
Locals appealed to the administration to look into the matter and provide the filtered water so that they can have a sigh of relief.
The concerned JE however said that the water is not contaminated and it is due to the continuous rainfall from last night that makes the water look contaminated.
“The villagers are getting the fully treated water. It is drinkable and clean,” he said. “The filtration plant for the area is in proposal and the work will start soon.”
