Srinagar, May 28: In order to provide financial assistance to the families of the SPOs who have passed away due to illness or fighting against militancy while in service, Director General of Police (DG) Dilbag Singh Frida sanctioned Rs 45 lakh as special relief in favour of dependents and legal heirs of deceased and slain SPOs.
According to a statement, the special relief of Rs five lakh each has been sanctioned in favour of dependents and legal heirs of eight deceased SPOs namely Sanjeev Kumar, Beli Ram, Rajinder Singh, Madan Lal, Bhagat Singh, Mansa Ram, Halima Begum and Gh Mohi-ud-din Khan who expired due to health related issues during the course of their engagement with the Police organization, while as rupees five lakh special relief has also been sanctioned in favour of slain SPO Nazir Ahmad Khan who attained martyrdom in a terrorist attack on 29-03-2021 at Sopore.
Rs 50,000 each was already paid to the deceased families for performing the last rites as immediate relief by the concerned units. The financial assistance has been given out of Contributory Police Welfare Fund of SPOs, the statement said.
It added that police Headquarters is running many schemes for the welfare of its personnel and their families. “There are also schemes for the wards of Police personnel and SPOs. Besides, there are schemes for the NoKs of slain, their wards and also for the retired Police personnel and their spouses.”
