Srinagar, Jun 4: With no let-up in suicides by jumping into river Jhelum especially in Srinagar, the locals here have appealed the administration to keep the live boats and men ready at the vital points including bridges to ensure that such attempts are foiled in a hurry rush to save the precious lives.
Srinagar district has recorded a number of suicide cases in last one week. A woman jumped into a river Jhelum at Safa Kadal on May 20 while another attempted to commit suicide by jumping into river from Budhshah bridge, which was foiled by the cops and CRPF men present there.
People especially from Srinagar here have sought the intervention of the administration to put an end to such incidents so that precious lives are saved.
“The administration should ensure deployment of SDRF men and live boats especially at bridges to help the rescue of the distressed people very hastily,” the locals said.
They said the government needs to understand the need of taking such measures well on time so that the graph of such incidents will be brought down.
Meanwhile, a top official when contacted in this regard said that it will consider the deployment of live boats and other related things at bridges as it is a good suggestion and can help in rescuing the distressed people easily.
“We will look into it. We will take up the matter and come up with a decision in this regard,” a top official said. (KNO)
