Srinagar, Jul 19: People living close to the Line of Control (LoC) are feeling relieved in the wake of prevailing ceasefire on the both sides of fence as they believe every day that passed without shelling is Eid for them.
The residents of border district of Kupwara said that this year they are carrying their activities without any fear and are feeling very much relaxed for which they have to thank authorities of both countries.
“All activities are being carried freely this year and people are very happy this year,” said Muneer Ahmad, a resident of Ring area in Machil sector. “I hope that ceasefire will continue so that people live in peace and don’t loose property and lives anymore.
Locals, however, that they have seen ceasefire announcement hundreds of times in the past and nobody can predict for how long the prevailing pact may last.
“Ceasefire is a welcome step but it should last long otherwise whatever we construct in few years gets damaged in just few minutes of exchange of fire,” said Ghulam Mohiudin, a resident of Kupwara.
The residents of Kupwara maintained that 40 underground bunkers have been constructed in the area but given the number of people that live in the district, the number is too less. “There is a need to construct more bunkers so that precious lives are protected if situation turns bad again,” a group of residents said.
Stating that every day that passes without exchange of fire is Eid for them, the LoC residents of Kuwpara districts. “But this Eid is different as there is peace prevailing on both sides of the fence. We expect guests and will offer sacrifices of animals without any fear. This Eid, we would be able to distribute the sacrificial meat among relatives and negibhours without fear,” said Imtiyaz Ahmed, a resident of Chowkibal area of Kupwara.
