The flow of shoppers has increased since the past couple of days in Kashmir ahead of the Muslim festival, Eid-ul-Adha. The people are thronging to the markets to buy essentials, clothes and other stuff for the festival. However, the most irritating issue these shoppers are facing is lack of parking slots, which has added to the misery of commuters. The commuters could be seen parking their vehicles on the roadsides in absence of the fewer parking spaces, thus leaving the shoppers to lurch at large. Not only the shoppers, but those who are being forced to park their vehicles on the roadsides too are facing the action by the concerned department. Many have been challaned while tyres of some cars were also deflated, thus causing hardships to the people. The government has recently said that the issue of roads is being resolved under the Smart City project. Public transport will be made public friendly very soon. We are heading towards having liable public transport, the government had said. Besides, the work on some parking slots is going on at present. The work on these must be completed at a shortest possible time so that there would be some respite to the people on day to day basis and especially on festival like occasions. There is a need to come up with more parking slots across Srinagar so that the increasing rush of vehicles can be accommodated and the commuters would not face any hardships.
