Srinagar, Sep 8: In a significant move, the administration of J&K Union Territory has set the ball rolling for appointment of commissioner for persons with disabilities- the post lying vacant over the past two years.
To begin with, the department of Social Welfare has invited applications from eligible interested persons for filling the post of commissioner for persons with disabilities, who will regulate and monitor implementation of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016”.
Documents in possession, reveal that the candidate should have special knowledge or practical experience in matters relating to rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
He/she should not have attained age of 60 years on Ist January 2021, the documents reveal.
According to documents, the person shall have twenty years’ experience in Group “A” level or equivalent post in central government or state government or public sector undertakings or semi- government or autonomous bodies with disabilities matters/ social sector or works in the capacity of a senior –level functionary in a registered national or international voluntary organization working in the field of disability or social empowerment.
The commissioner for disabilities would be appointed on full-time basis for a period of three years or till he/she attains age of sixty-five years, whichever is earlier.
According to rules governing the appointment, a search –cum-selection committee headed by J&K Chief Secretary shall be constituted by the government to recommend to it a panel of three suitable candidates for the post of commissioner for persons with disabilities.
The government shall appoint one among the three as commissioner for persons with disabilities, the rules state.
The search committee also comprises administrative secretaries of the Social Welfare department, Health and Family Welfare department and School Education department and divisional commissioner Kashmir/ Jammu.
