Abandoned public parks

Over three months have elapsed since the government handed over the public parks within Srinagar to the concerned municipality from the floriculture department. However, the public parks, especially those, located in the residential areas are giving a bad impression to the visitors mainly to the local dwellers as no one has been deputed so far to take the reins, thus adding to the misery of the people. These public parks, where locals used to visit especially in the evening hours during the summer season, are full of garbage and the flower beds as well as other related things are missing, thus turning these parks into a simple open field. These parks were earlier being used for several things, but now, the present situation is even depriving the local populace to enter the parks. It seems that these public parks have been abandoned by the concerned authorities, which has only added to the misery of the people. The government before handing over these parks to any other agency should have ensured proper care takers, so that the prevalent situation could have been avoided. There is a need to take the reins of these public parks before it’s too late. The concerned should ensure deputation of the gardeners and other employees at the park so that the local populace could heave a sigh of relief and the further deterioration of these gardens are prevented well on time.
