Srinagar, Sep 9: Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have arrested an active militant of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen HM and recovered incriminating materials including arms and ammunition from his possession.
A police spokesman in a statement said that on specific input regarding movement of militants, Police along with 50RR and 185Bn CRPF launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Androosa Khrew area of Awantipora.
“During the search operation, joint forces observed some suspicious movement in the orchard area where a suspected person was trying to escape but was tactfully apprehended by the joint parties,” police said.
He has been identified as Shahid Ahmed Khanday, son of Abdul Rashid Khanday of Mandakpal, Khrew, police said, adding that during his personal search, incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession.
As per police records, he was an active militant and affiliated with HM, spokesman said. In this regard, police has registered a case under relevant sections of law at Police Station Khrew and further investigation has been initiated.
