Ganderbal, Sep 9: The only approach road which connects Srinagar via Ganderbal along the Srinagar -Leh national highway remains in shambles from Nunner to Wayil area, giving tough times to local commuters and tourists.
Srinagar-Sonamarg-Leh road that passes through scenic gold meadows and pristine rivers has now reduced to a cluster of potholes, which not only irked the people living around in several villages along the way but is also creating an impediment to the travelers and pilgrims to reach the world famous tourist resort like Sonamarg and to annual Amarnath yatra.
People of the area said that the condition of road deteriorated in year 2017 when the maintenance was taken over by R&B department from BEACON and “since then no work has been done to maintain the road by the department.”
“Despite the repeated request by the concerned Sarpanch’s of their respective areas no heed has been paid so far,” locals said.
“We several times request authorities to repair the road but they are acting like mute spectators,” Sarpanch of the area said.
