Srinagar, Sep 11: In winter season, the production of electricity generated by Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) and Independent Power Producer (IPP) take a dip by 70 percent in Kashmir region.
The calculations pertaining to the generation of electricity during the winter season in Kashmir states that a total of 60 Megawatts (MWs) of electricity is being generated by the JKPDC and IPP, while a total of 130 MWs are being imported from other sources.
According to the official figures, “During winter, total power generation in Kashmir Valley is 60 MW (Self-Generation plus IPP), while total imported power from others is 1350 MWs.”
The information revealed by the office of the Chief Engineer of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited has further said that a total of 200 MWs of power was being generated in the summer season.
“During summers, the total power generation in Kashmir is 200 MW and the total power imported is 1200 MWs,” it reads.
Stating the consumption of power in both summer and winter seasons, the figures reveal that more than 20 percent of electricity was getting consumed in Kashmir in winter as compared to the summer season.
“The total consumption of power at a peak load during the winters is 1450 MWs while during summer season, the total consumption of electricity in Kashmir was 1200 MWs,” the figures reveal.
