The customs adopted by the people in the Valley especially for the marriages has created a worrisome situation. One cannot even imagine the needless expenditure being spent by the hosts in every nook and corner of the Valley. The people have been spending hefty amounts of fatty marriages in the Valley, thus simultaneously leaving the downtrodden section of the society to lurch at large. According to the religious leaders, these fatty marriages, which are turning into a usual happening in the Valley, are among the reasons that many girls, who have crossed even the marriage age, are awaiting the marriages. One fails to understand the need for adopting the customs, which is resulting in the hardships to the youth including boys and girls, belonging to the downtrodden section of the society. According to Islam, the fatty marriages are no way allowed and also it teaches us to perform the ‘Nikkah’, the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) with the simplicity. Society has to wake up as it is a crucial juncture when we can stop these things from happening and also remove the hurdles for the downtrodden section of the society. There is a need to create awareness in this regard in every respective residential locality and also the religious clerics have to play a pivotal role in it to put an end to the fatty marriages and customs adopted by the people. The local Mohallah Behbood committees too must take the step forward in this regard and ensure that the youth, especially the girls belonging to the downtrodden section of the society are not pushed to the wall and deprived from marriages due to the unnecessary customs.
